About RASA
RASA Centre for World Cultures presents performing arts from around the world. The Sanskrit word ‘rasa’, originating in the classical Indian appreciation of art, points at what the spectator experiences through the emotions evoked by the artist.
Quality, diversity and innovation characterize RASA’s highly varied presentations, in which justice is done to heterogeneous art disciplines, traditions and styles. And RASA’s audience too is just as diverse with regard to its interests and cultural backgrounds.
RASA is a well-equipped venue in the centre of Utrecht, which can accommodate 200 to 350 people. It presents some 100 music-concerts, dance/theatre performances, club-nights, literary events, lectures, workshops and festivals every year. Prominent artists as well as lesser-known but promising talents from all over the world hold the floor. They offer a wide variety of artistic and cultural manifestations, ranging from pure classical to modern or popular; from authentic forms to a mixture of Western and non-European styles.
Each year RASA-productions organizes tours of music groups presenting traditional and classical extra-European music. See RASA-productions.
